The Challenger Bead Filter

This filter is very easy to service, with a side mount multi-port valve you won't have to undo any plumbing to access the internals of the filter.

The CHALLENGER series utilizes the HYDRA-THRUST bead agitation system. Air is forced into the vessel to thoroughly agitate the beads and break free the entrapped debris. The pump then gives a thorough backwash and rinse via the multi-port valve. You will enjoy the longer intervals between backwashing with these large diameter filters.

A couple of the advancements have been made to the popular Challenger line of filters is the addition of the Hydraswirl technology and Sludge drains. With the Hydraswirl addition solids are spun to the center of the vessel where they wait for the operator to open the sludge drain. With this unique feature, solids are purged under pressure, while opening the Sludge drain with the pump running. This forces the heavier solids out of the filter to waste in a matter of a few seconds. A Multiport Valve is provided as standard equipment with features such as Backwash, Rinse, Recirculate, and more.

The Water Miser Drain

The Water Miser Drain comes standard on the Challenger filter making a near perfect filter even better. The Water Miser drain allows an Ultra low volume backwash if water is expensive, in short supply, or you have a low volume heavily stocked pond.

The Water Miser drain is yet another new feature of Fluidart bead filters that sets us at the head of the pack in bead filtration. The Water Miser drain is an improvement to the Hydraswirl sludge drain. It allows an ultra low volume backwash if water is in short supply, expensive, or you have a low volume pond, but heavily stocked. After using the Blower or an initial hydraulic backwash to break up the bead pack, let the heavy solids settle in the water below the bead pack then open the Water Miser drain and drain them to waste. The sludge drain will allow the entire tank to be drained, without losing beads through the sludge drain. So one is only using the water volume of the filter tank to wash the beads. This saves many gallons of water that may be used with an hydraulic backwash. Of course, it will still function as before with the Hydraswirl feature, to spin the heavy solids out under pressure, but you don't have to worry about losing beads.
