All ponds will contain billions of minute bacteria. These include helpful species that Breakdown the toxic fish waste in the biological filter system, and convert it into nitrate, which is then taken up by the plants. However, there are also other bacteria that live in the pond that are opportunistic invaders of stressed and wounded fish, including the species Pseudomonas and Aeromonas which will infect any cut or abrasion on the surface of the fish, and can also invade the host across the gut wall during gastro-intestinal problems.

NT Labs Acriflavin, when added to the pond, will reduce the numbers of these opportunistic bacteria in the pond, thus lowering not only the chance of infection, but also the intensity of disease in already infected ponds.

NT Labs Acriflavin is ideal to use in hospital or quarantine tanks, but it is unwise to constantly add the treatment to the pond when the fish are healthy. This is because a background level of bacteria is essential for healthy fish to maintain their immune system.

Dosage:

A single dose of NT Labs Acriflavin should be sufficient. If not, wait 10 days before adding a second dose.

Add 250 ml of NT Labs Acriflavin to every 2 000 gallons of pond water.

NT Labs Acriflavin 7 is a pond anti-septic active against persistent bacterial ailments.

Treats conditions caused by bacteria such as Fin and Tail Rot and Ulcers in all pond fish.

NT Labs Acriflavin 7 Recommended dosage:

A course of treatment over 7 applications. Use when fish have ulcers, fin or tail-rot.

10ml treats 700 litres
2.5 litres treats 7 x 25,000 litres

Add one dose every week for 7 weeks.

The skin and gill flukes Dactylogyrus Sp. and Gyrodactylus Sp. are notoriously difficult to treat directly in the pond. This is because they are protected by the natural Mucus layer on the fish and by causing the fish to produce more mucus by irritating the skin and gills.

There is also some evidence that some species of these parasites are resistant to some regularly used treatments.

Successful treatment depends upon ingredients which can penetrate the mucus and reach the parasites.

NT Labs B-D-S Fluke Treatment provides a well tried and tested formulation which treats both skin and gill flukes as well as bacterial diseases such as fin or tail rot and ulcers in a strength sufficient to treat large ponds easily.

The correct dose of NT Labs B-D-S Fluke Treatment does not affect the Filter Bacteria or plants and persists in the water long enough to destroy the various stages of parasite which may otherwise remain to re-infect treated fish.

NT Labs Chloramine T is a very popular and effective treatment to generally lower bacterial levels in the pond. NT Labs Chloramine T can be effective on white spot, skin flukes and some bacterial gill diseases. NT Labs Chloramine T can be used in the entire pond or as a dip or bath treatment. Use above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

NT Labs Chloramine T is a powdered product an effective broad spectrum chemical for lowering bacteria in ponds.

At higher dose rates NT Labs Chloramine T can be used for skin / gill flukes, white spot, costia etc.

NT Labs Chloramine T is commonly used as a pond wide treatment. Typical Dosages : 5 grams per 1000 gallons as an anti- bacterial or 15-20 grams per 1000 gallons as an anti parasite treatment (4 doses required). NT Labs Chloramine T can be used as a bathe treatment.

NT labs E X 5 Anti-parasite Treatment

Malachite green and Formaldehyde, used together, are the best treatment for common external parasitic infections.
E X 5 is a special formulation of these key ingredients which is added to the pond every day for a five day course. It is not only an antiparasite treatment but also effectively clears up secondary fungal infections Because E X 5 is added every day for 5 days, it is safe to use in ponds containing sensitive fish such as Sterlet, Tench, Rudd or Orfe.

NT labs E X 5 Anti-parasite Treatment can also be added to the pond as a single dose preventative treatment, for example, in early spring or when new fish are introduced to the pond.

• Remove adsorbent filter material - carbon, zeolite etc.
• Switch off UV
• Increase Aeration
• Allow plenty of time to observe fish
• Do not mix medications
• Leave 10 days between treatments if no improvement is seen

NT Labs F-M-G Mixture has been formulated to provide the Koi keeper with a ready mixed formalin and malachite green preparation which gives the same treatment levels of formalin and malachite green as you would get by using the separate components according to the instructions.

NT Labs Formaldehyde 30% is effective against protozoan parasites and flukes. It is especially useful in treating flukes because of it's ability to penetrate mucus and reach the parasites that would otherwise be protected from other bath treatments.

NT Labs Formaldehyde can be used as a dip bath to treat severe cases quickly. For the bath add 1ml to 1 gallon of pond water and bathe the fish for 1 hour. Aerate the water and watch for signs of stress.

Caution:  Formaldehyde is a hazardous chemical and should be handled with great care, please read the warnings on the label carefully.

Gill-Wash contains an antibacterial surface-active agent that helps remove excess mucus from the skin and gills. When fish have been irritated by parasites or bacterial infection they produce mucus as a means of easing the irritation. This can lead to a build up of mucus that interferes with the normal gill and skin function. Bathing in Gill-Wash gently removes the excess mucus to allow the fish to breathe more easily at the same time combating any infection that may be present.
