To save valuable benchtop space, the HI-83303 doubles as a professional pH meter with its digital pH/temperature electrode input. Aquaculture parameters include Alkalinity, Calcium, Nitrite, and Phosphate which are critical to maintaining a healthy system. It also contains parameters specific to either a marine or freshwater environment.

The photometer features an innovative optical system that uses LEDs, narrow band interference filters, focusing lens and both a silicon photodetector for absorbance measurement and a reference detector to maintain a consistent light source. It ensures accurate and repeatable photometric readings every time.

Made with the aquaculture industry in mind, the HI-83303 is a comprehensive solution to maintaining optimal chemical and environmental conditions, preventing disease and increasing production.

The HI-83303 measures vital parameters such as Alkalinity, Calcium, Nitrite, and Phosphate. Alkalinity plays a part in a dynamic relationship with pH and CO2 concentrations, high alkalinity water lowers fluctuations in pH. The buffering capacity acts to store extra CO2 essential for photosynthesis in the ponds to produce oxygen. Maintaining calcium at certain levels is vital to proper fish growth and development. Excessive nitrite can be toxic to fish. When nitrite interacts with Haemoglobin, the iron becomes oxidised and the blood cell can no longer carry oxygen. Phosphate is essential to plant growth; too much phosphate in an aquaculture system can contribute to algal blooms decreasing dissolved oxygen vital for a successful ecosystem.

A digital pH electrode input allows the user to measure pH by a traditional glass electrode.

The HI-83303 offers an absorbance measuring mode that allows for CAL Check standards to be used to validate the performance of the system. The absorbance mode allows the user to select one of the five wavelengths of light (420 nm, 466 nm, 525 nm, 575 nm, and 610 nm) to measure and plot their own concentration versus absorbance mode. This is useful for users with their own chemical method and for educators to teach the concept of absorbance by using the Beer-Lambert Law.

Two USB ports are provided for transferring data to a flash drive or computer and to use as a power source for the meter. For added convenience and portability the meter can also operate on an internal 3.7 VDC Lithium-polymer rechargeable battery.

High Efficiency LED Light Source

An LED light source offers superior performance as compared to a tungsten lamp. LEDs have a much higher luminous efficiency, providing more light while using less power. They also produce very little heat, which could otherwise affect the optical components and electronic stability. LEDs are available in a wide array of wavelengths, whereas tungsten lamps are supposed to be white light (all wavelengths of visible light) but actually have a poor blue/violet light output.

High Quality Narrow Band Interference Filters

The narrow band interference filter not only ensure greater wavelength accuracy (+/- 1 nm) but are extremely efficient. The filters used allow up to 95% of the light from the LED to be transmitted as compared to other filters that are only 75% efficient. The higher efficiency allows for a brighter, stronger light source. The end result is higher measurement stability and less wavelength error.

Reference Detector for a Stable Light Source

A beam splitter is used as part of the internal reference system of the HI-83300 photometer. The reference detector compensates for any drift due to power fluctuations or ambient temperature changes. Now you can rely on a stable source of light between your blank (zero) measurement and sample measurement.

Large Cuvette Size

The sample cell of the HI-83303 fits a round, glass cuvette with a 25 mm path length. Along with the advanced optical components, the larger size of the cuvette greatly reduces errors in rotation from the indexing mark of the cuvettes. The relatively long path length of the sample cuvette allows the light to pass through more of the sample solution, ensuring accurate measurements even in low absorbance samples.

Focusing Lens for Greater Light Yield

Adding a focusing lens to the optical path allows for the collection of all of the light that exits the cuvette and focusing the light on the silicon photo detector. This novel approach to photometric measurements cancels the errors from imperfections and scratches present in the glass cuvette eliminating the need to index the cuvette.

How ehe Hanna 83303K Aquaculture Photometer kit works ? There is no need to calibrate as the test procedure does this for you. Fill the test tube with a clear pond water sample, insert into meter, press the “zero” button (this calibrates the pond water sample to the meter as a reference), add the reagent to the same test tube, Insert back into the meter, press the read timer button, this starts a timer count down, then the Hanna 83303K Aquaculture Photometer kit test meter shows the result on the digital display. All have a 2-year warranty.

Ammonia Ion Specific Meter (Supplied with 2 cuvets and caps)

Ammonia Ion Specific Meter (Supplied with 2 cuvets and caps)Ammonia is often an excellent indication of the presence of animal or plant microbiological decay. It is tested in fish farms (fresh and salt water tanks) due to the damaging effects of its toxic nature.

Ammonia is tested in lakes, rivers, portable water, boiler feed water, sewage, industrial and waste water. Ion Selective electrodes currently used for these measurements require up to 5 minutes for a stable response time and normally last 3 to 6 months. With chemical test kits, 3 or 4 kits using color cubes are needed to cover the full range.

The best increment with chemical test kits is never better than 0.1 mg/L and in most cases, only 0.5 mg/L. HANNA offers instruments for low, medium and high ammonia concentrations.


Simply fill the test tube with pond water, insert the meter and press the "zero" button.  This will calibrate the pond water sample to the meter as a reference, add the reagent to the same test tube, insert back into the meter, press the read timer button, this starts a timer count down, then the meter shows the result on the digital display. That's it! It doesn't get any easier.

Ammonia Meter: This is a very popular meter for obvious reasons. Range 0.00 to 3.00 mg/l resolution 0.01 mg/l Battery, instructions 2 test tubes included. Simple to use, results in less than 4 minutes.

The Hanna Nitrite Meter instrument is equipped with Cal Check® validation function and standards to validate good performance at any time. Taking just a few short steps, the validation procedure is user-friendly and ensures that the meter is properly calibrated wherever you go. Hanna photometers use the exclusive ready-made, NiST traceable standards to verify the performance of the instrument and recalibrate if necessary.

Cuvets are constructed from specialised optical glass to ensure the best and most consistent results. The positive locking system ensures that the cuvet is in the same position every time it is placed into the measuring cell. Our sample cell is designed to fit a cuvet with a wide neck to make it easier to add both sample and reagents.

The Hanna Nitrite Meter with Cal Check HI 96707 are factory calibrated and the electronic and optical design minimises the need for frequent calibration. Display messages on the Hanna Nitrite Meter with Cal Check HI 96707 aid the user during routine operation. The auto-off feature will disengage the meter after 10 minutes of non-use in measuring mode or 1 hour while in calibration mode. Reagents are in powdered form and are supplied in packets. The amount of reagent is precisely dosed to ensure maximum repeatability. The Hanna Nitrite Meter with Cal Check HI 96707 utilises an adaptation of EPA approved method. The reaction between nitrite and the reagent causes a pink tint in the sample.

Nitrates are present in nature as a result of the decomposition of organic microorganisms or due to their use as fertilizers. Nitrates reduce to nitrites, which in turn easily combine to form substances dangerous to man.

A maximum level of 45 mg/L is established as a worldwide guideline for nitrate concentration in water. In Europe, the maximum consented level of nitrates in potable water is 50.0 mg/L, while in the USA the EPA has established a guideline for the maximum level of nitrate nitrogen of 10 mg/L (NO-3-N), which corresponds to 45.0 mg/L of nitrates.

The Hanna HI-96728 Nitrate Low Range Meter is extremely easy to use and gives direct readout on the digital display in mg/L(ppm). To obtain a reading simply take a small sample of water in the glass cuvette supplied, add the reagent (not included), and then place the cuvette in the measuring chamber of the instrument.

The Hanna HI 9146 is a water-resistant, microprocessor-based, auto-calibrating
Dissolved Oxygen meter with ATC. It has been developed for dissolved oxygen and temperature measurement in water and wastewater as well as other applications such as fish farming. Dissolved oxygen is indicated in hundredths of parts per million (ppm=mg/L) or in % of saturation .

The temperature range is indicated in centigrade from 0 to 50°C with 0.1°C resolution.
The ppm and the % saturation are both compensated for changes in solubility of oxygen
in water and for permeability of the membrane as well as the temperature effect.

Salinity compensation in water allows determination of mg/L of dissolved oxygen in
salty waters and the altitude compensation readjusts for the altitude variance.
Four 1.5V AA alkaline batteries provide power and make the instrument completely portable. The Hanna HI 9146 is also designed to be used with a battery recharger or a 12 Vdc power supply. A 12 Vdc input jack is incorporated into the housing.

A microprocessor ensures an accurate and rapid calibration and measurement. The case rugged and water-resistant for maximum protection in the field as well as in the laboratory.

The dissolved oxygen probe has a membrane covering the polarographic sensor elements and a built-in thermistor for temperature measurement and compensation. The thin permeable membrane isolates the sensor elements from the testing solution, but allows oxygen to enter. When a voltage is applied across the sensor, oxygen that passes through the membrane causes a current to flow from which the oxygen concentration is determined.

HI 9147-04 DO Meter (with a 4 m cable) are specially designed for aquaculture applications. This unit is unique among our family of DO meters in that it comes with a galvanic probe.

The Hanna HI9147 dissolved oxygen meter is designed for use in the fish farming industry and features a galvanic type of dissolved oxygen probe. Unlike polarographic probes, galvanic probes require no conditioning time. When you need to measure multiple samples in a given period of time, pick it up and measure immediately and on demand.


The meter is equipped with automatic temperature compensation plus user adjustable altitude and salinity compensations for the most accurate measurements.

HI 9147 is a must have for DO sensitive organisms or high bio-load environments:-

The HI-9147 is supplied with a HI76409/4 dissolved oxygen galvanic probe fitted with a 4m long cable, 2 spare membranes with O-rings, electrolyte solution (30 ml), battery and instructions.

The Hanna Dissolved Oxygen Meter or Oxycheck is a water-resistant Dissolved Oxygen meter with manual calibration, automatic temperature compensation (ATC), salinity compensation and direct probe.

The Hanna HI 9147 DO Meter with Galvanic Probe, will test arguably the most important parameter of water quality. Most species require a minimumm of 3 ppm DO, but 8-10 ppm is preferable.

The instrument is equipped with an inductive system for battery recharge, with no external contact, to ensure a watertight seal. Dissolved Oxygen is indicated in mg/L (ppm) or in % of saturation.

The temperature can be measured in the range from -5 to 50°C. The Dissolved Oxygen readings are automatically compensated for the temperature effects on the oxygen solubility and membrane permeability. Moreover, the salinity compensation feature allows determination of Dissolved Oxygen even in salty waters.

The meter is housed in a rugged water-resistant case for maximum protection in the field as well as in the laboratory. The D.O. probe is provided with a membrane covering the galvanic sensors and a built-in thermistor for temperature measurement and compensation.

Total chlorine is given by the sum of free chlorine plus combined chlorine, where free chlorine combines with nitrogen to produce chloramines. Chloramines is harmful to aquatic life and damages water treatment plants that use membranes for water purification (e.g. reverse osmosis). Chloramines concentration in water depends on pH, temperature, the initial ratio of chlorine and amines, chlorine demand and total time of exposure.

Both forms of chlorine (free and combined) can exist at the same time, though they need to be measured separately. HI 96761 is an auto-diagnostic portable photometer for accurately measuring trace total chlorine for ion-exchange membranes and resins. The advanced optical system employs a specialized tungsten lamp and a narrow band interference filter, assuring accurate readings between 0.000 to 0.500 mg/L.

The Hanna Trace Total Chlorine Waterproof Photometer instrument is equipped with Cal Check® validation function and standards to validate good performance at any time. Taking just a few short steps, the validation procedure is user-friendly and ensures that the meter is properly calibrated wherever you go. Hanna photometers use the exclusive ready-made, NiST traceable standards to verify the performance of the instrument and recalibrate if necessary. Cuvets are constructed from specialized optical glass to ensure the best and most consistent results.

The positive locking system ensures that the cuvet is in the same position every time it is placed into the measuring cell. Our sample cell is designed to fit a cuvet with a wide neck to make it easier to add both sample and reagents. All instruments are factory calibrated and the electronic and optical design minimizes the need for frequent calibration. Ideal for field applications, these meters are splash proof and the lamp and filter units are protected from dust or dirt by a transparent barrier. Display messages aid the user during routine operation.

The auto-off feature will disengage the meter after 10 minutes of non-use in measuring mode or 1 hour while in calibration mode. HI 96761 utilizes an adaptation of the Standard Methods, 20th Edition, 4500-Cl G. The reaction between chlorine and DPD causes a pink tint in the sample.

Oxidation is a process in which a molecule or ion loses electrons. Reduction is a process by which electrons are gained. A measurement of the potential for these processes to occur is called ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). Hanna's ORP is a unique hand-held tester developed to determine this value. ORP is a result of the wide demand for an accurate, affordable ORP tester. ORP has now been redesigned to be easier to use with a reinforced ergonomic casing adding a level of durability which is unsurpassed in the field as well as a much larger LCD for increased readability. The HI 98120 is a waterproof ORP and temperature meter. The housing has been completely sealed against humidity and designed to float. The temperature values can be displayed in °C or °F units.

The meter is factory calibrated and measurements are highly accurate with a unique stability indicator right on the LCD. This meter is also provided with battery level indication at start-up, and with a low battery symbol which warns the user when the batteries need to be replaced. In addition the Battery Error Prevention System (BEPS) avoids erroneous reading caused by low voltage level by turning the meter off.

The HI 73120 ORP electrode, supplied with the meter, is interchangeable and can be easily replaced by the user. The stainless steel encapsulated temperature sensor facilitates faster and more accurate temperature measurement.

The Hanna pH/conductivity/TDS/Temp waterproof meter HI-98129 offers the ability to measure conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), pH and temperature all in one compact pocket meter. The dual level display shows the pH or Cond/TDS reading together with the temperature of the solution. The meter itself is fully waterproof and even floats to aid retrieval.

The waterproof Combo has a large easy-to-read, dual-level LCD and automatic shut-off. pH and EC/TDS readings are automatically compensated for the effects of temperature (ATC). This technologically advanced tester has a replaceable pH electrode cartridge with an extendable cloth junction as well as an EC/TDS graphite electrode that resists contamination by salts and other substances. This gives these meters a greatly extended life. Your tester no longer needs to be thrown away when the pH sensor is exhausted.
